My daughter with three of our UKC Champions Arni, and two of our beautiful girls Mikayla and Lindy.
Welcome to our website. I am Marilyn Pikal from Winthrop MN, a small hobby/show kennel that breeds AKC-UKC registered Alaskan Klee Kai and Shiba Inu.
I started showing dogs in 1988 and had Siberian Huskies for many years. In 1993 I started showing Shiba Inu and liked their smaller size, so I eventually got out of the Siberians, but I missed their striking looks and inquisitive playful nature. In 2008 I finally decided to get an Alaskan Klee Kai. Raidon became my first UKC champion. I still own and show Shiba Inu visit www.kayobishiba.com, if you wish to learn more about them.
What is an Alaskan Klee Kai? The Alaskan Klee Kai breed was developed in the 1970's by Linda Spurlin as a Miniature Alaskan Husky. It is a purebred dog registered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) While the breed's creator initially crossed Huskies with other breeds this is no longer done. It takes about 20 generations of selective breeding to get dogs that will produce puppies that look similar in appearance and size. This is why AKK are much more predictable than Pomskies which are the a first generation mix. The Pomsky has a lot of variation in size and color as well as many unknown potential health risks. By selective breeding and health testing the Alaskan Klee Kai breeders have identified health problems and have been working for many generations to produce healthy dogs with a similar look and size.
We love our Klee Kai, but they are not right for everyone. Please read through our site, as well as others and do plenty of research before adding a puppy to your family. You may also call me to discuss the breed and their characteristics.
I concentrate on health, temperament and structure when planning my breedings. I have miniature and standard size AKK meaning they vary from 13" to 17" at the shoulder.
We occasionally have puppies. Typically we breed to keep our next show prospect, a choice that can only be made beginning at 8-9 weeks of age. At this age we can evaluate our puppies inherent temperament, as well as structure and movement. If you are interested in adding an Alaskan Klee Kai to your family, I ask that you fill out a questionnaire. This helps me to know what questions you have about the breed and dogs in general as well as what you are looking for in a puppy.

Our dogs are registered with the UKC amd AKC. We do extensive health screening to ensure all of our dogs are worthy of reproducing. We screen for patellar luxation, heredity eye problems, factor VII and heart and thyroid issues.
Our dogs are family pets first and must be social with our family and other dogs. The breed is not for everyone! They can be quite destructive as puppies and if not socialized and trained properly some may become territorial and nip at strangers in their home. Obedience classes are always a good idea as well as early socialization.
We occasionally have puppies available. We ask that you complete our questionnaire if you are interested in a puppy. We do not take deposits on unborn puppies. If you care enough to fill out a questionnaire and keep in touch you will be on our list for upcoming litters. This also gives me a chance to get to know you and your family! Our pet puppies are $1800 to $2400.
We ask that you be willing to keep in touch and let us know how your puppy matures. Also we would like to be informed if there are any health or temperament issues that we should be aware of when planning future litters.
We only offer breeding/show pups to people we have gotten to know and have met personally. If you are interested in showing and breeding feel free to e-mail me and I can let you know what shows are coming up or you can schedule a visit to meet the dogs and myself!
All of our pups are sold on a written contract. The questionnaire is part of the contract. In addition we also have a health guarantee and a return policy. All of our babies are precious to us and if you cannot keep your puppy at any age we want him/her back. The breed is in rescues and we do not want our puppies to end up unloved and unwanted!
SCAMS
With the high price of well-bred puppies, many types of scams are showing up. Never buy a puppy where the deal seems too good to be true. Shipping alone is $250-$300 so a pup listed at $300 shipping included is sure to be a rip-off. Avoid sites with a Pay Pal "Buy it Now" button. Some are puppymills and some are scams where they do not have a puppy, just a pretty picture! An ethical breeder will screen homes and make sure the breed is right for you and your family.
Many "blends" or mixes are now being offered. Some have no Alaskan Klee Kai in them. Many are husky mixes, some are pomeranian and some shiba inu. You cannot take a pet Husky and breed it to a pet Pomeranian and eventually end up with an Alaskan Klee Kai. All you have is a mixed breed dog, usually with no health screening. AKK are a breed that is recognized and should never be crossed with other breeds! If the parents are not UKC registered you are not buying an Alaskan Klee Kai! To avoid scams, call the person on the phone, talk to them and ask questions. Ask for a vet reference or references from previous buyers.
