The first question most people ask is price. Alaskan Klee Kai are rare dogs. Breeders are very selective with the dogs they use for breeding to work towards improving the health of this breed. Our pet puppies are $1800 to $2500. True AKK will be registered with the UKC or AKC. There are several breeders who have created their own "Klee Kai" by mixing Huskies, pomeranians American Eskimo or other breeds. There is no health testing or history with these mixes.
We are a very small hobby breeder and do not have puppies available all the time. We breed with the intent of keeping the pick puppy as a future show prospect. Most of the time we do not list puppies under 8 weeks of age as being available as we can not evaluate their structure and movement. If you are interested fill out a questionnaire and you would have first option on a pup that became available. Sometimes the puppy I pick early on is too small as a breeding potential or too shy. There are many variabilities so do not be discouraged just because we usually keep a pup. Also we do not feel it is fair to take deposits on future litters. What would happen if I took 10 deposits on 2 planned litters within a year and one did not take and one breeding only produced 2 pups, one of which I wanted to keep? Do I keep your money and make you wait another year? Would I be able to refund 9 deposits? Not wanting to put myself or you in this position I prefer to wait until a litter is born before taking deposits. Then we both know what sexes and colors there are and what may potentially be available. Because of eye color genetics it is impossible to predict the color of eyes in a litter. I love the blue eyes but brown and parti color eyes are very common even if both parents have blue eyes. Eye color can start to be determined at 5-6 weeks of age. It can change especially with parti color eyes.
If the puppy you have a deposit on fails his or her health exam the deposit is refunded. This gives you the opportunity to continue looking around for available pups. I know I would not be happy giving someone money and then being having to wait, while I see other pups I would like to have had.
I do have a questionnaire. This gives me your information and lets me know a little about your family. I find this to be better then to just get an e-mail asking if I have pups now. Families who are serious do not have problems letting the breeder know a little about themselves and I fond the questionnaire to be a great introduction. If you are approved the questionnaire will become part of the sales contract. I do reply to ALL my e-mails so if you do not hear back in 2 or 3 days feel free to re-send it. People who have filled out the questionnaire and with whom I develop a relationship through e-mails are put on my "waiting list" They are contacted first when the pups are born and are given first chance to put in a deposit.
A deposit is applied towards the total cost of your puppy. The final payment must be made when the pup is 6 weeks old. We do not accept Pay Pal or personal checks. A bank check is preferred or cash if you pick up your puppy in person.
Once you receive of your puppy you will need to take him in for a health exam. If your vet feels the puppy was not fit for sale it is to be returned immediately. You are to return him using the same method used to receive him. Your puppy will have been examined a few days before we release him, and we do not anticipate any problems. But if you and your vet are not satisfied with the health of the puppy we will take him back as we do not pay others vet bills. Once the puppy is returned with his paperwork we will refund your money minus all shipping costs. All puppies are born with worms and we worm our puppies and keep them current on vaccinations. Additionally puppies may carry other internal parasites such as coccidia or giardia. Our pups are all treated but your puppy may test positive for internal parasites. A severe infection of parasites would make the puppy unfit for sale and he must be returned immediately. are prone to retained testicles. this is not life threatening and is not considered a condition that would make the puppy unfit for sale. You will be notified of any condition our vet finds before we release the puppy.
I love to talk about my dogs and approved buyers are welcome by appointment. We just ask that you be respectful and show up on time, keep any pets leashed, pick up after them and that your family stays with us and does not roam the farm opening bird pens or disturbing other animals. Please do not bring large groups, this is my opportunity to meet you and talk with you about the breed and how it fits your home.
I do not sell to breeders unless I know them personally from the shows. Alaskan Klee Kai are wonderful dogs, but they are already attracting puppy mills attention! UKC shows are great fun and if you are new to showing and feel it may be something you want to try I am willing to help you get started! I can let you know show times and you can come and check it out. I have found UKC to be very friendly to novice exhibitors and for children. Completing a championship is not as expensive or as difficult as AKC shows and it is a fun experience. This will also help me mentor people who do want to breed, so that they get a good start and learn about the breeds faults, potential health issues and how to produce great quality puppies.
Spay/neuter policy. All pet pups are sold with a written contract stating the buyer will spay or neuter the pup between 6 and 9 months of age. Spayed and neutered dogs make better pets and you do not have to worry about accidental litters. 6 months is plenty early to spay or neuter. Having it done too early is not good for the health of your puppy.
Because the breed is so new, most breeders, myself included, request that you keep in touch with how the puppy matures. They are a healthy breed and we want to keep it that way, so if your pup does develop any health issues I would like to know. It can happen where one dog produces many pups with the same problem and the sooner it is known that he or she may be passing on genetic problems, the sooner his owner can remove him or her from a breeding program.
